David Horton is the President of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute
George Cagle, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute (FBBI), brought a report and a recommendation from the Fruitland Board of Directors (Fruitland Board) and its presidential search committee. "Throughout this entire search process, we have seen the hand of God at work," he said. "We received 16 applications from all across the country, and we narrowed it down to four candidates." Each of the four candidates was interviewed, and the unanimous decision of the committee resulted in the recommendation of David Horton as the new president of FBBI. The BSCNC Board of Directors unanimously elected Horton as President.
In his comments to the BSCNC Board of Directors, Horton identified three distinct areas of emphasis of focus for his presidency: Respecting the past, protecting the purpose and embracing the future. Horton spoke of the "tremendous heritage of Fruitland" as a place where men have been trained to be "preachers of the Word." Citing expository preaching as a hallmark of a Fruitland education, he pledged to continue the training of men to become and remain Bible expositors. He believes that "God was doing something special at Fruitland" and he desires to see that experience maintained even as he would explore online classes and other ways to expand the ministry of Fruitland to North Carolina Baptists and beyond.
Horton, 48, is a past President of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina; member of the BSCNC Board of Directors and Executive Committee; and current member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. He comes to the FBBI presidency from Gate City Baptist Church in Jamestown where he served as Senior Pastor and he holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (B.A.) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.). Horton is married to Lisa and has three children and one grandchild. He begins his service as President of FBBI June 1.
