Changing the Expectation of Support from a Position of Abundance to a Place of Sacrifice
Sneak peak inside: A pat on the back for a poor lady, a push to redefine support, and a promise from God to advance His Kingdom!
Inspired by Jesus’ example of the poor widow in Mark 12:41-44, I find myself as the Director of Institutional Advancement praying for a change in my own thinking and the thinking of all who consider themselves “Friends of Fruitland.” For decades, educational institutions, non-profits, and churches have long searched for the large financial gift to accomplish all that they have on their list of goals. We at Fruitland, without a doubt, greatly appreciate when God puts it in the hearts of believers to leave a substantial financial gift that allows us to rapidly advance the cause of Christ. However, we are bound by the example of the poor widow in Mark 12 to consider how the small sacrificial gift can impact the advancement of the Gospel at Fruitland Baptist Bible College for decades to come as well.
We understand too, that the most important form of support is the opportunity for God’s people to intercede in prayer on behalf of Fruitland on a daily basis. Without genuine prayer, we are fighting against Satan, the world, and our flesh disconnected from the power of God, which leaves us tired and in a seemingly endless cycle of battle without victory. So moving forward, we are focused on three initiatives and their corresponding goals that lead us to victory… Here they are!
First, we will focus on the idea of raising “support” rather than just raising “money.” Support raising includes at its forefront, the indispensable act of prayer needed for Fruitland’s students, professors, faculty, staff, and alumni serving all over the Southeast and the globe in Gospel ministry! Our goal for 2016 is to have over 2,000+ believers lifting up Fruitland in specific prayer to our faithful God each month. This is the foundation for all other support that will come in the future. Can you imagine the power of this prayer support?
Secondly, I am asking you to go to www.Fruitland.edu/OPERATION2016 today and securely sign up for our 2016 support initiative called “OPERATION2016.” This includes a commitment to pray for Fruitland ten times each month and simply give a $10 bill each month. My goal is to have 2,016 individuals praying and giving each month by October 1, 2016, to create a support team that is strong in prayer and financial giving. This ongoing, steady, and consistent support will have Fruitland covered in prayer over 20,000 times each month and generate over $20,000 monthly in reoccurring financial resources needed for scholarships, housing, facility improvements and the expansion of curriculum at FBBC. Can you imagine how this ongoing support would bless Fruitland in expanding its mission?
Lastly, we have a special naming opportunity for a current housing need here on Fruitland’s campus. With enrollment at an all time high, our married and family housing is already full and we need to begin immediately on our next building to serve those coming to be trained in Gospel ministry. The estimated cost of this “quad-plex” unit is nearly half a million dollars, however, through generous donations of materials and labor we are able to build the married/family housing quad-plex unit for roughly 50% of the actual cost. We are praying for a donor to come forward that would fund this $250,000 project, allowing us to open the doors of campus to many future pastors who are currently married and raising children. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to meet the families that were able to attend Fruitland because of your gift?
I am confident, as is our President, Dr. David Horton, that the faithful support of God’s people will continue for Fruitland Baptist Bible College as we faithfully stand on God’s Word and train the next generation of Christian leaders to make known the incredible life Jesus Christ offers us now and forever with Him in Heaven. To God alone be the glory for the great things He has done, is doing, and will continue to do!
