Part-time Music Director, Cedar Mountain, N.C.
Rocky Hill Baptist Church, located in Transylvania County in Cedar Mountain, is
looking for a part time music director. Rocky Hill is a small mountain church with a
long history in music and ministry in the Cedar Mountain area. The church uses The
Celebration Hymnal from Word Music. The worship is traditional in nature but the
choir has sung contemporary as well as country Gospel for the special music. The
position will require that the music director be present on Sunday mornings and
Wednesday evening. The music director along with the pastor will plan the worship
hour and the music to be used in the service. On Wednesday evening the music
director will rehearse with the choir the hymns for Sunday morning and prepare
special music for each Sunday morning’s worship hour. The church has a large music
library with CDs to utilize.
The music director will also plan the yearly Easter Cantata. In the past the Rocky
Hill’s Choir sang the cantata for the Sunrise service at Symmes Chapel, also called
Pretty Place. We have not sung there for the past three years but hopefully we can
once again take part in the Sunrise service there.
The Music director will also be responsible for the yearly Christmas Cantata. In the
past the Christmas Cantata was a drama program focused around the nativity. The
music director wrote cantata using various past cantata music to come up with a
program. On occasion the cantata was held in conjunction with a meal prior to the
program. In all other instances a fellowship time followed the cantata in the Family
Life Building.
The position pays $500.00 per month with the minimum of the 2 days per week.
Rocky Hill is approximately 45 minutes from Fruitland, and is located on Greenville
Highway (Hwy 276), just before the South Carolina line.
I will say that the position may develop not only in the area of the music ministry, but
possibly in the area of Youth and Children’s Ministry as well, in which case the salary
and hours would be adjusted for the additional responsibilities.
